A laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Around four fifths of the stomach is removed through several small incisions, leaving a narrow tube. That reduces how much you can eat at one sitting and also lowers the hormones that drive hunger, which is why it changes appetite and not just capacity. It is the most commonly performed bariatric operation, and it is not reversible — the removed part of the stomach does not come back.
It costs considerably less than in the UK, Ireland or Germany — largely because hospital and staffing costs are lower, not because the standard of care is. Your price depends on your history, the length of your hospital stay and the length of your trip. We do not publish a single figure, because quoting a number before a surgeon has seen your measurements and medical history would be guesswork. You receive a written all-inclusive quote after your assessment, usually within 24 hours, and it does not change once agreed.
Eligibility is usually assessed on BMI together with any weight-related conditions such as type-2 diabetes, sleep apnoea or hypertension. Nothing on this page decides it — your surgeon does, after reviewing your measurements, your history and your pre-operative tests. Send your height, weight and any conditions and we will tell you what your options look like. If surgery is not advisable in your case, we tell you before you book.
By your history rather than your preference. Reflux, type-2 diabetes, previous abdominal surgery and your eating pattern all push the decision one way or the other — significant reflux, for instance, often points away from a sleeve. Your surgeon explains the reasoning before anything is booked, and if the answer changes after your endoscopy you are told why.

An endoscopy, blood tests and imaging, plus a dietitian assessment and a psychology assessment. They are all done in İstanbul in the first day or two of your stay, and they are part of the package rather than an extra. The endoscopy matters most: your surgeon wants to have seen the stomach before operating on it.
In a full JCI-accredited hospital with theatres, imaging and intensive care in the same building. Sleeve gastrectomy is performed under general anaesthesia and you stay 3 to 4 nights on the ward with nursing observation before you are discharged to your hotel.
A check of the staple line before you are allowed anything by mouth, done in the first days after surgery. Until your surgeon is satisfied with it you take nothing to drink. It is a standard part of the pathway here, and part of why the hospital stay is 3 to 4 nights.
Plan for 6 to 8 nights. That covers your tests and consultation, surgery, 3 to 4 nights in hospital and a post-operative review before you fly. You should not book a flight home until your surgeon has signed off at that review.
A staged plan set by your dietitian: liquids for the first weeks, then purée, then soft food, then solids. You get the full schedule in writing before you fly and your dietitian adjusts it as you progress. Portions stay small permanently, and vitamin supplements are lifelong.
You are helped to your feet the same evening, because moving early is part of the recovery. Expect discomfort and tiredness for the first week or two and no heavy lifting for about four weeks. Most patients are back to desk work in around two to three weeks. Energy often dips in the first weeks before it improves.
Your dietitian and coordinator stay in contact for up to 24 months. You check in at agreed intervals, your bloods and vitamin levels are reviewed, and you can reach us on WhatsApp at any point. The follow-up is included in your package rather than charged separately. If something concerns you, we would rather hear about it early.
